General Rules of the Library

  • All users of the Library must enter through the Entry Point, and leave through the Exit Point at the Security Check Point.
  • Bags, brief cases, hats, raincoats, umbrellas and other carriers, are not allowed into the Library. They should be handed over to the janitors at the Issue Desk for safe-keeping in pigeon holes and collected back when leaving the Library.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are forbidden within the Library.

Sanctions

Failure to Return Books On Due Date

  • A user who commits this offence shall be liable to pay a fine of 5GHC per day up to 5days. Thereafter, a fine of 10GHC a day plus loss of borrowing rights will be imposed until the books are returned. (Charges are subject to review)
  • All Students who fail to return all Library books to the Deparment /Faculty Library three (3) days before second semester final examinations will be debarred from taking the examinations.

Registration of Readers

All readers wishing to borrow books must present their Identity Cards/Letters of Admission before they are registered. Registration is valid for the duration of a registered programme. A reader will be issued with a Borrowers card which must be shown at the Issue Desk whenever a book is being borrowed from the Library.

Borrowing of Books

The number of books readers are entitled to borrow from the Library are as follows:

  • Lecturers – 10 books
  • Part-time Lecturers – 5books
  • Demonstrators – 5 books
  • Other senior members - 5books
  • Senior Staff - 5 books
  • Junior Staff - 5 books

NOTE: All Students are only permitted to Read the Books within the Library.

Finding a Book

The books on open access (at the Lending Library) are for direct borrowing. It is expected that each borrower will be able to find a book after determining the Author and the Class Number from the online public access catalogue.
To do this:

  • Look for the Author in the Author/Title Catalogue
  • Find the Class number indicating where the book is shelved.
